In this workshop, Joe Bill will guide you through examining two different "brain states" of improv, how (and when) to integrate them in a good, solid longform show.
The game brain is the one noticing the comic potential in all ideas and sugestions (don't we all love a good laugh?), while the scene brain is the one shelving elements and reincorporating them, keeping an eye out for credibility and emotion, and remembering character's names, among other things.

It is one of the most famous mantras in longform American-style improv, of Mick Napier fame: "Do something". In the first few seconds of an improv scene, just do something. It is less important what you do, specifically, than that you do do something.
In this workshop, Joe Bill, a long time collaborator of above mentioned Napier, will guide you in ways to maximise your usefulness in the first 30 seconds of a scene.

Our lives are woven together by stories, among which are the personal, the mythological and the magical. Stories that exist in the fabric around us, stories we tell ourselves, stories told by our friends and families, stories from society… These stories influence who we are as performers, creators and human beings.
In this workshop, though the performer's lens, we will examine ways to to be authentic and compelling in our own storytelling. Whether our style leans to the personal, the improvised or the mythological, we will explore the different doors through which we can access story, working on composition and delivery, with a view to sharpening our skillset for creating theatre, monologues, and storytelling as a stand alone form.

In this workshop we will be working with The Hexagon Structure (beginning, middle, ending) of input and discovery of story, otherwise known as the organic process.

Joe Bill is one of the most experienced longform performers and directors in the world today, and this will be a very good starting point for any improviser looking to go from short form to long form, or to refresh their longform skills.

This workshop will consist of a guided chain of improvised real life stories, which will help with your improvised storytelling skills, especially helpful in formats like Armando (Asscat). The stories will happen in rounds, with four people each, and will include guidelines on how to turn it into a one hour format for performance.
